Flickr archives: 2013
Through the window. Walking to the supermarket on a cold morning, I noticed these plants in the partially fogged up window of a solicitor's office. I added the small frame because at the time Flickr had a white background.
Winter in Kampen. A winter evening at the Botermarkt in the centre of Kampen. Bicycles everywhere as usual.
Frozen patterns. I spotted these patterns of snow on the frozen surface of the Burgel in Kampen. Not a favourite of mine, but it was rather popular so I include it.
Sculpture detail. The yearly Kampen Art Route offered some photo-opportunities as usual. This one is my favourite of the bunch, a detail of a sculpture in a garden. The result is quite abstract.
Finally spring. The winter of 2012/2013 was cold and long - it was mid April before we got a first taste of spring. These flowers were displayed by a florist on the main street. Eminently forgettable, except that somehow it made Explore (#499).
Volcanic abstract. An example of the possibility to see abstract shots almost everywhere. The stand of the weekly market, set against a blue sky, and with a tree's shadow as extra shape.
Musical impression. On many occasions, musical bands march through the Oudestraat in Kampen. I took half a dozen of shots from the same standpoint (our living room's window on the second floor) and merged them into one shot in Picasa. A rather impressionist result that I'm quite happy with.
Fifty shades of grey. A visit to the City Museum in nearby Zwolle yielded this shot. It's a detail of a huge paper sculpture by Machteld Wijlacker. A good example of abstracting art.
Dancing the night away. A summer evening concert in the centre of Kampen, with dancing on the streets. Four shots merged into one. Explored (#482).
IJssel abstraction. Most of my Kampen water reflection abstracts are taken at the Burgel, the canal that runs through the city. Here we have on in the river IJssel, with intentional camera movement. It's actually traffic lights on the opposite banks. Explored (#489).
Kampen church abstract. A personal favourite that received little response at Flickr. It's close-up of one of the inside pillars of Kampen's main church.
Abstraction in curved lines. In contrast to the previous one, I don't particularly care for this shot, but others did. I can't even remember what it is and where I took it (a vase in a restaurant?).
Owl. During special festivities in Kampen, sometimes there's a display of birds of prey. This owl shot is my favourite of the ones I took over the years at those occasions.
Jigsaw. Another shot that's a personal favourite but that tanked on Flickr. A detail of a decoration of a Japanese restaurant in Nijmegen. I felt vindicated of my opinion when I sold a print of this one in our gallery.
Morningmood. Early morning, this was the view from nearby our house of the IJssel bridge. I've taken more shots at this location, but this remains a favourite.
Peugeot. On a day trip to Bocholt in Germany, we came across an old Peugeot displayed in a shopping mall. I took a shot of one of the headlights. One of my favourite abstract shots.
September reflected abstraction. Similar to the IJssel abstraction shot above, but trying to keep the camera (handheld!) still. It may not have hit Explore, but I like this one better.
Click. Shooting my wife's silhouette while she was shooting her shadow. Taken at the Saturday market at the Plantage in Kampen.
Inside the windmill. This is the interior of the windmill in nearby Hattem. I like how it takes time before your mind decides whether you're looking up or down.
